Dr. Johnson joined the FYE team in July 2015 as Academic Coordinator for the Strategies for Student Success (SLS 1501) program at UCF. Originally from Chicago, IL, Dr. Johnson earned his Ph.D in May 2015 from the University of Illinois in Educational Policy Studies (EPS). His research interests include Access and Participation in Higher Education Programs (undergraduate and graduate study) for underrepresented students (with a specific focus on African American males). Dr. Johnson has over ten years of experience in the context of the First-Year Experience including: coordinator of first-year seminars, academic advising, and campus wide diversity initiatives at the University of Illinois. In his new role, Dr. Johnson looks forward to strengthening the pathways of first-year students toward career placement and entrée into graduate/professional schools. In his spare time, Dr. Johnson enjoys traveling, theme parks, and cooking.
