A Guide to Preparing for Final Exams

Let’s be real: we know students don’t find final exam time any fun.

However, this process doesn’t have to be too terrible.

There are lots of ways your student can be preparing NOW for when finals come around later this month. Check out the following list of resources and helpful links and encourage your student to take advantage of them!

In the ACE Program, academic coaches help students develop important academic and life skills such as organization, time management, study skills, online learning, and goal setting. ACE coaches can meet with students regularly throughout the semester. Click here to access the ACE Coaching Sign-up form.

Each semester the Student Academic Resource Center (SARC) provides all UCF students an opportunity to continually enhance their learning and study skills through a series of Academic Success Workshops. One featured program that happens at the end of each semester at UCF is called Study Union, where SARC takes over the Student Union and hosts 50 - 80+ final review sessions during finals week. Sessions are in-person and streamed via Zoom. This year’s program is supported by the Parent & Family Fund Grant.

If your student is still unsure about when their final exams are, UCF has a helpful website where they can search by class day/time. Check it out here: https://exams.sdes.ucf.edu/2023/spring

P.S. This is a helpful link for you as well if you are planning their arrival back home or this summer’s plans! ?

Free group peer tutoring or one-on-one peer tutoring is available for a selection of undergraduate courses. Group peer tutoring has in-person and online options while individual tutoring is only available online and by appointment only. Check out the group peer tutoring schedule here. Check out the one-on-one tutoring offered courses here; the sign-up link can be found here as well: https://academicsuccess.ucf.edu/sarc/one-on-one-peer-tutoring/.

Finding the right studying place is important for academic success. Here is a list of some places students can study. Check each link for the details. Remember, this is not the ultimate list of study places at UCF; there are tons of tables and chairs in every UCF building!

Supplemental Instruction (“SI” for short) provides a series of weekly study sessions for students taking historically difficult courses at UCF. These sessions help students who might be in specific courses taught by a specific professor. The SI Leader is a student who has already taken the course and earned an “A.” If your student is struggling in one of these courses, they can seek detailed and specialized support from SI sessions.

Did you know? Your student can borrow a laptop, MacBook, iPad, scientific calculator, chargers, camera, headphones, and more from the UCF Library for FREE! If your student experiences any technical needs, let them know about UCF Library Technology Lending. Visit this link to see the list of items they lend.

The UCF Writing Center is a campus resource that offers free, individual and small-group consultations for any writing in any situation. They offer both in-person, small group, and online consultations. Drop-ins are welcome but making an appointment at least one hour in advance is necessary to guarantee a meeting with a consultant. Check out the Writing Center page for more details.
