Many degree programs at UCF include a foreign language proficiency requirement for graduation. At the University Testing Center, students can test for proficiency in many languages by taking the Foreign Language Achievement Tests (FLATS) or CLEP exams.

The FLATS exam is not accepted for course credit at UCF but satisfies the proficiency requirement up to 2 semesters and is available in in over 50 languages. More information about the FLATS exam: https://academicsuccess.ucf.edu/utc/flats/.

Students also have the option of taking a CLEP exam, which can provide course credit in addition to satisfying the language proficiency requirement.

Encourage your student to speak to their advisor about language proficiency. Students who take CLEP exams for course credit can save thousands of tuition dollars and jump ahead on their track to graduation. There is currently a buy one, get one 50% off sale for CLEP exams taken this year.

CLEP exams are available in many subjects and passing CLEP scores can be accepted for course credit, up to 2 semesters per subject, in over 30 UCF courses like English Composition, College Algebra, U.S. History, and foreign languages.
