A college career is full of new experiences and responsibilities, and your student may need some help navigating this unfamiliar territory. Students may need legal assistance through no fault of their own. Consumer fraud, identity theft, and bad landlords can happen to anyone.

Occasionally, student life may bring situations that give rise to legal issues–traffic tickets, charges from an old landlord or underaged possession of alcohol.  These situations can be overwhelming to a student, and on-campus legal advice and representation can help keep an academic career derailed.

UCF Student Legal Services (SLS) offers a broad range of services to students free of charge. Areas of coverage include:

  • Lease Reviews
  • Landlord/Tenant Disputes
  • Consumer Matters
  • Family Law Matters
  • Insurance Claims
  • Debt Collection Defense
  • Expungements
  • Wills (Living Wills, POA, Health Care Surrogate)
  • Traffic Tickets
  • Criminal Defense (Trespass, Possession of Marijuana, DUIs and other misdemeanors)

You can find out more information about SLS at https://sls.sdes.ucf.edu/.

Students have a confidential relationship with their lawyers at SLS. All visits and communications with the staff of Student Legal Services are confidential. SLS does not disclose information to the University or any third party, including a parent, without the student’s written consent.

For the past 40 years, our office has been assisting Knights in need. If your student needs assistance, please guide your student to our office. Students who need assistance can call 407-823-2538 or stop by Student Union, Room 304 to make an appointment. We encourage students to visit the office with their questions and concerns.  This can help educate them as to their legal rights and responsibilities and eliminate much of the guesswork of life on campus and in the community
